Scope

Each Scrum team has implemented standardized metrics to assess various aspects of their work, including quality, velocity, backlog readiness, and actual hours spent. These metrics provide valuable insights into team performance and areas for improvement.

Velocity is calculated by considering new feature development, addressing technical debt, and resolving bugs. This approach provides a comprehensive view of where team efforts are allocated. For instance, Sprint 4 focuses on bug fixing, while Sprint 1 addresses technical debt.

Quality is evaluated from multiple angles, including internal and external defects categorized by priority. This analysis encompasses both developers and quality engineers. Additionally, defect fixing is scrutinized to gauge product quality. The evaluation includes P3 and P4 defects found and fixed, providing a comprehensive view of product quality.

Backlog readiness assesses the readiness of estimated and groomed new features and technical debt in comparison to the team's average velocity. Projections for two and three sprints ahead help identify potential backlog shortages. This analysis is critical, as seen in Sprint 3 when insufficient backlog for the average team capacity impacted overall velocity.

This metric offers insights into the time allocated by teams to various tasks, helping identify areas where teams are heavily engaged.

Implementing these metrics has enabled teams to effectively monitor problematic areas in collaboration with stakeholders.
