ACCIDENT PREVENTION CLOTHING THAT SENDS risk notifications
Safety remains a crucial issue when working under harsh conditions. Environmental hazards (physical or chemical) and health issues (loss of attention under stress or heart attacks) continue to present high risks in the workplace.
As recently reported by the US Department of Labor, among the most frequently violated Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards are:
• Fall Protection
• Respiratory Protection
• Lockout/tag out
• Machine Guarding
• Eye and Face Protection
Technologies embedded in smart workwear or as standalone devices enable continuous monitoring of dangerous conditions.
• Continuously monitor environmental conditions and send alarms about risky and critical conditions to which workers may be exposed to. Workers are informed instantly and without interruptions for measurement or using additional standalone or mobile tools.
• Continuously monitor vital signs, behavior, and alarm the nearest co-worker about the potential risk. The workwear enables small teams and self-employed workers to proceed with their tasks without having to see one another all the time. Workers get real-time updates in case there is a potential risk.
HOW IT WORKS
Figure 1. “Supervisor-controlled”
Device 1 monitors the ambient conditions with sensors, sending an alarm in case the set threshold is passed. ECG sensors (device 2) measure and analyze heart activity for anomalies. Alarms go onto device 1 (buzzing, beeping) and onto an interactive interface (via a notification) to instantly identify and deal with specific health problems.

Figure 2. “Mesh Network”
Smart workwear units connected in the mesh network send alarm messages directly to the endangered worker’s co-workers, with the aim of preventing accidents.
A supervisor with an interactive interface can check the status of each individual within the mesh network of the connected workwear. The mesh network can also connect to the selected individual to gather detailed telemetry data.
